A series of three Transatlantic AI Hackathons organized by EIT Digital and the German American Business Association (GABA), will bring together creative minds and thought leaders from both sides of the Atlantic.

The objective of the Transatlantic AI Hackathon Series is the cross-development of AI-based solutions, addressing specific business, societal, environmental, and economic challenges.

The first series is on “Health and Safety Monitoring DeepHack”, and will deep dive into Edge AI’s exceptional potential towards the development of improved and more robust health and safety monitoring solutions, and offerings. Edge AI, the technique of processing AI algorithms on a hardware device locally, has several advantages: increased levels of automation and flexibility, faster performance with stronger data protection and privacy, and real-time data and decision making. Edge AI helps in analyzing local situations swiftly and provides a fast response, with no connection to the internet needed, which is of immeasurable value in the Health and Safety Monitoring use case.

Your challenge for this DeepHack is to develop Edge AI-powered sensors and computer vision solutions to aid individuals or groups of people to stay safe and healthy.

Potential solution domains include fall monitoring, pedestrian/bicyclist safety, monitoring physical distance and mask-wearing, physical worker safety, fitness, and posture tracking – and other health and safety problems that can be addressed by utilizing Edge AI for IoT.

This initiative is organized by EIT Digital and the German American Business Association (GABA) and supported by the Transatlantic Program of the Federal Republic of Germany, funded by the European Recovery Program (ERP) of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi).
